Laid into each volume are slips printed with two prayers, Gebet vor und nach der Betrachtung ('Prayer before and after Reflection'). Text in German. Just about fine in near fine jackets. Textblock lightly browned at margins, with touches of spotting to top edges; jackets with very light edgewear and toning to spine panels. This copy belonged to Dr. Ludwig Kempe, German-American neurosurgeon, ornithologist, and illustrator, retired colonel in the U.S. Army, asst. chief of neurosurgery at Walter Reed, etc. etc.; with his ownership signatures.
