Illustrated with floral capitals, headpieces & tailpieces. Contains Sermons for Christmas, Circumcision, Epiphany, Easter, Ascension, Pentecost, Trinity Sunday; on the Infant Jesus, on the Passion of Jesus Christ. Dedicated to Charles de Rosmadec, then Bishop of Vannes, who would soon be appointed Archbishop of Tours. Approbations. Very good. Cracked at upper joint, with some loss to crown of spine. Sparse notes in neat contemporary hand to preliminary pages, including margins of title page. Small, handsome library bookplate to front pastedown, with purple stamp. Binding square & tight, text otherwise quite bright & unmarked.

Jacques Biroat (d. 1666) was a Benedictine priest, theologian, and preacher to King Louis XIV; known chiefly for his sermons. Uncommon.
