Hadriani Barlandi Hollandiae Comitum Historia et Icones; Cum selectis scholiis ad Lectoris lucem
Lugduni Batavorum (Leiden): Ex officina Christophori Plantini (Christopher Plantin), 1584. First Edition. Folio. 7.75 x 11.75 in. [viii], 127, [1] pp. Later marbled paper, all edges sprinkled red, handwritten title label affixed to spine. A beautiful production of Adriaan van Baarland's COUNTS OF HOLLAND, with luxurious decorative capitals, drop capitals, side notes, and exquisite italics. Illustrated with 34 engraved plates. Text in Latin. Lacking Vol. II, Episcoporum Catalogus et Res Gestae. Very good. Moderate wear to fore-corners and spine; some soiling and heavier edgewear to rear board. Text rather clean and bright, with occasional browning and spotting to some of the paper stock; some of the latter plates printed on a lighter paper, one plate shows a repair to margins, affecting only the very corner of the engraving. Binding square and tight.
Scarce.
