Edinburgh: John Grant, 1906. First Thus. Demy 8vo. 347 pp. Original green cloth, titled and decorated in gilt on spines, top edge gilt. Volume IX of the Winchester Edition of the Novels of Jane Austen. 'The Winchester Edition has special claims to gratitude through the delightful quality of its print and paper. The print is of a generous design, and very black and clear, and the paper while untransparent, not so heavy but that the book can be held comfortably in one hand. Altogether this promises to be one of the most delightful reprints ever given to the public' (Spectator). Very good. Spine very slightly cocked and a touch toned. Some light and occasional foxing to text, more moderate at margins and endpapers; contemporary ownership signature to front pastedown, text otherwise unmarked. Binding tight. Gilt remains rather bright.
An uncommonly nice copy of the charming Winchester Edition of Northanger Abbey.
